Arms of the Rising Sun: 2027 Collectors Calendar.

I'm excited to announce the upcoming release of Arms of the Rising Sun, a new collector's calendar featuring some of the firearms of Imperial Japan. https://www.risingsunhistory.com/product-page/arms-of-the-rising-sun-calendar-2027.

This project started with a fairly simple idea: I wanted to create a calendar that was something I would actually want to have hanging in my own collection room. Rather than simply putting a full photograph of a firearm on each month's page, I wanted to highlight the details that collectors appreciate—the markings, mechanical features, variations, finishes, and other small details that make Japanese military firearms so fascinating.

The result is a 12-month calendar featuring high-resolution photography of Japanese military arms, from common Type 38 and Type 99 rifles, to the extremely rare Baby Nambu and Sugiura pistols. All presented with a clean, collector focused design.

A Huge Thank You to Historic Investments LLC

A project like this would not have been possible without the generous help of Historic Investments LLC.

Historic Investments provided the majority of the photographs featured in the calendar, and their willingness to share their collection and photography made an enormous difference in the quality of the finished product. Their contribution allowed me to showcase firearms and details that would have been extremely difficult to photograph and document on my own.

I am extremely grateful for their support. Without Historic Investments LLC, this calendar simply would not be as good as it is. Please take a moment to visit them at investmentsinarms.com and support the work they are doing to preserve and share historic arms.

Coming Just in Time for Christmas

The calendars are currently available on Risingsunhistory.com/shop for pre-order for $34.95.

The pre-order will remain open through October 2, 2026. After the pre-order period ends, the regular price will increase to $39.95.

Calendars are expected to begin shipping by mid-October or early November, putting them on track to arrive well ahead of Christmas. Whether you're buying one for yourself, adding it to your collection room, or looking for a unique Christmas gift for the Japanese militaria collector or military-history enthusiast in your life, I think Arms of the Rising Sun makes something a little different from the typical calendar.

More Calendars to Come

This isn't intended to be a one-time project.

My plan is to release a new collectible calendar each year, with each edition focusing on a different aspect of Japanese military history or one of my other research interests. The goal is to create calendars that collectors will actually want to keep and display—not just something that gets thrown away when the year is over.

And if you're a collector of Japanese medals, you may want to keep an eye out for next year's edition. I may already have something in mind...

Supporting Future Research

Perhaps most importantly, all profits from the sale of Arms of the Rising Sun will go directly toward funding my historical research and travel expenses. Researching and writing books often means traveling to museums, archives, collections, historical sites, and other locations where the information and artifacts I need can be found. These trips can be expensive, but they are an important part of producing the books and research projects I want to create. So when you purchase a calendar, you're not only getting something for your collection—you are helping fund future research, travel, and books.

I'm excited to finally share this project, and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I have enjoyed putting it together.
