Serious progress is being made on my upcoming book on Japanese medals, tentatively titled Medals of the Emperor. The manuscript is now just over 86 thousand words! Here are the important highlights of the project:

  1. Headstamp Publishing is currently reviewing the manuscript for possible publication. Headstamp Publishing is owned in part by Ian McCollum of Forgotten Weapons and is the publisher of my previous book Tobacco of the Emperor. Headstamp was fantastic to work with. James Rupley's photography is second to none, and their layout and graphic design is top notch. I truly hope that they decide to bless me a second time.

  2. Travel. I will be travelling for this book. First, I'll stop in Texas to visit a collector who owns most of what I'm physically missing for the book. Although I don't have any additional travel plans at the moment, I may also be travelling to Europe for the book project!

  3. Finally, I've geared myself out with some photography equipment. If Headstamp does indeed decide to publish the book, then they will shoot the majority of the photography, but there are some shots that I will have to get myself. This is especially important when travelling. I need a high quality camera, lenses, and lighting that can truly capture medals and awards to a degree that is publishing worthy.

Things are moving quickly. Writing and editing continue constantly. I will begin posting regular updates on the project so that you can follow along the journey with me. Subscribe to my email campaign to catch the latest news at https://www.risingsunhistory.com/
